Chapter 48.2
Hugh and Ellen McDicken had six children:

- Married as a minor to Robert Greaves Marshall (1807-1854) in Bangalore (now Bengaluru, Karnataka), India in 1839

- Born in Secunderabad (now in Andhra Pradesh), India.
- Secunderabad was the twin city of Hyderabad. Secunderabad Junction railway station, one of the largest in India and the zonal headquarters of South Central Railway, was established in 1874. Several heritage buildings survive from the time that Hugh was there, including the King Edward Memorial Hospital (now the Gandhi Hospital). Sir Winston Churchill, the prime minister of the United Kingdom during World War II, was posted in Secunderabad during the 1890s as a subaltern in the British Army.
