Depending on the works entrance used, Bidford Rd was less than a mile from the Austin, i.e. the Longbridge car plant, and about two miles from the Austin Village. It was part of the Allens Cross Estate, built in the 1930s: there are some memories from a woman (b. 1945) who lived directly opposite, in number 26, here. All mod cons, and a big improvement on the slums which had been there before. The factory site is now, itself, being redeveloped. More history here.
