Stanley Dalman’s father was an ironfounder and engineer from Essex. Stanley was a nephew of the Narborough family, and joined the family business, which made hand-crafted sterling silver mounted walking canes for the gentry. The business expanded into whips and canes. Over the years the cane business expanded into ceremonial equipment for the military and police forces of the world. Stanley was appointed MD in 1962, and the company became as Dalman & Narborough. His son John P became MD in 1971, his son Stephen J Dalman in 1993, and his son Tom is now a driving force. The holding company is now known as the All Arms Marketing & Manufacturing Organisation (AMMO), and they provide all manner of ceremonial uniforms and accoutrements, and Scottish ceremonial regalia. In a joint venture with Pearl percussion and the Band Service of HM Royal Marines, they developed the marching drums used by the British armed forces. They operate several online stores, including that of the Brigade of Gurkhas. They are still based in Birmingham.
