MG (1945-1954)

Following the Second World War, MG resurrected its sporting pedigree at Abingdon by building the iconic T-Series Midgets and the refined Y-Type range. The 1945 MG TC kick-started this era; its traditional pre-war body, upright chrome radiator, and wire wheels famously sparked the post-war sports car craze in North America.

To modernise the range, the 1950 MG TD introduced independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and smaller wheels—mechanical foundations shared with the elegant YA and upgraded YB saloons.
Alongside the rare YT Tourer, this entire family relied on variations of the rugged 1,250cc XPAG engine. MG manufactured over 60,000 of these post-war vehicles before finally replacing the outdated platform in 1955.

MG TC

Kick-started the post-war sports car boom, especially in North America. Retaining 1930s styling with 19-inch wire wheels and slab-tank tail, it offered an engaging, traditional, wind-in-the-hair British roadster experience.

Modernised the formula by introducing IFS and precise rack-and-pinion steering. It sat on smaller, wider 15-inch steel disc wheels and featured a roomier cabin. It became MG’s biggest commercial success up to that point.

MG YT

Rare, open-top four-seater version of the Y-Type saloon built almost exclusively for export. It mated the saloon’s comfortable chassis to a sprightlier, twin-carburettor version of the XPAG engine. Disappointing sales.
